Ringtones for my Verizon/LG Chocolate cell phone?

I don't want to pay for my ringtones, so is there anyway to make some of the music I have on my phone and turn it into my ringtone? The manual doesn't say anything about it, so i'm hoping one of you know.

1. i have a chocolate, and i had the same problem not too long ago. i tried everything i could to try and make one of my songs a ringtone, but i couldn't figure it out. then i just called the verizon people and asked them, and they said you couldn't. ( because that would mean they'd lose the opportunity to make $2 off of you from buying a ringtone from them. )
2. i figured it out i use a program called Bitpim and a ring tone making program called MP3 Ring tone Maker and transfer it to my phone through bitpim you need the USB cable to your phone that comes with the music essentials kit. The music essentials kit is $30
