Will the LG Chocolate cell phone work with Cingular?

Well, I'm on Cingular and I can't switch but I don't understand why I can't use that phone. Can I? If I can't I would like an explaination. Thanks.

1. no if u got in from verizon yes if u bought it from LG because it has this thing called sim block or sumthing like that so u can't change it to cinglaur. sorry
2. The person above me does not know what they are talking about. Alright, So in the United States, and across the world, there are two main types of cell phone companies. There is GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gsm ) and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cdma ) In the United States, Verizon Wireless, is a CDMA carrier. CDMA carriers take different kinds of phones then GSM carriers do. Cingular and T-mobile are both GSM carriers. The LG Chocolate is, as of now, made for a CDMA carriers, such as Verizon, and will not work with Cingular. The difference is in the different ways that a CDMA phone and a GSM phone send information back and forth to the Cell Tower. To use Cingular, you need to make sure the phone has GSM 850/1900 bands also. This means you will get no signal in most of, if not all of, Cingular coverage area. I would NOT advise getting this phone.

No you can't. reason is, cingular is on a what's called GSM network and Verizon uses what's called a CDMA network. they're 2 totally different types of technology. it's like trying to use mac software on a windows based computer, doesn't work. on your cingular phone, it has a SIM card, which is the 'brain' of your phone. you can take the sim card out and put it in another phone that takes a sim card and that phone will not ring under your #. verizon (CDMA) does not use sim cards. everything is built in to the phone directly as opposed to cingular (sim cards) where you can remove the sim card and put it in another phone and use that phone.
