If I swap SIM Cards on an ATT Wireless phone will the number move?

I ran over my ATT Go Phone with my car. If I buy a new one and swap the SIM Card, will my old number no go to my new phone? I contacted ATT, and they are no help. They want me to buy a new phone for $100 bucks! I can buy a refurbished phone with $25 on it for $30 bucks. I can use the $25 and then swap SIM Cards (in a perfect world).

2. All gsm phones have the number on the sim card, and not the phone. so yes. If the sim card is damaged, then simply take it to an att outlet, tell them that you need to port the number to a new sim. itll cost you a few bucks, but youll keep your number.
3. Yup. All user data like phone number is stored on the sim card, not on the phone. Go ahead and use up the $25 and then put your old sim card in the phone.
