Very old Cell phone plan being overcharged !?

I originally got a cell phone plan with Cingular about 10 years ago. Obviously now they are att. The plan is so old that when I call to find out plan details no one there seems to know the answers. My mother has been paying the bills for our family plan. I just recently created an online account and see in the past 6-7 months they have been tacking on fees fees and fees. They say our rollover minutes only apply to night and weekend!!! How crazy is that. Anyway, I am going to call them and get this straightened out. How should I go about this. I want money back from the overage charges for the last 12 months. Do you think they will accommodate me? I should be grandfathered in to my good old deal but instead their incompetence is forcing me to pay for a current plan grrrrrrrr.

  1. cuz dey like ummm charge u... CANCELL DA PLAN
  2. After the bill cycle closes (The last 11 months bill cycles have already closed) you can not be refunded. That is company policy and nothing you say will make them change that. You might be able to talk them into removing the charges, but it is not very often that they do so. Other than that, if you are sure that there is no possible way that you could have caused the charges, I would get a new cell phone carrier, preferably Verizon.
  3. I would first of all try and ring them and get it resolved like you said. If they wont help you or try and fix it, call the Tellecommunications Onmbudsman and put in a complaint (google the number for your country or territory). The ombudsman will try and resolve the issue with in 2 weeks, whether it is getting you money back, a new phone and plan or getting the contract cancelled. They are generally very good at what they do and are there to help consumers like you and me. Good luck and hope this helps!
  4. You could try, but you may only be able to get the overages refunded from the last few months. You may find because your mother paid the bill without checking it, she basically "agreed" that the charges were legitimate. I know for a fact that they won't "grandfather" you in on the old plan, but they may give you a rockin good deal on one of the newer plans...besides, with all there is out there to offer now, the newer phones can be pretty great! I would suggest that you have all your info and calculations in front of you when you call them, its easier to request refunds when you know exactly how much you want.
