How do I call block a cell phone from calling my ATT home (land line) phone?

Some body used my phone (ONCE!) to call a cell phone. Now that cell phone calls my house at 1:54 AM.... I need my sleep. I tried to do CALL BLOCK which is supposed to be a feature on my AT&T phone service. But that gets me a message that I can not block that number??? When I call them they say they need a NAME of who the caller is? IT IS A NUMBER! Why does that service not work? Is there any way for me to block that caller? I can not block all un-identified caller because my own cell phone could not get through if I had an emergency. To me the same ability that allows the number to show up on caller ID is all that the phone company needs to BLOCK these calls. Help some one tell me what to do to block ONE caller from a cell phone... forgive my irratic typing, i have had no sleep. I have got caller rejection, caller ID and all of the premium services. That is why I am so frustrated when they (my phone service provider) claims they can not block a cell phone because they need a NAME. The service should block the number, everything else in this computerized world is based on numbers. I can not access my own phone account unless I give a list of numbers (my social security and others like birth date ect..) but when it comes to a logical use for numbers they can not do this??? I think it is BOGUS. They are probably coming out soon with a new charge for blocking these!

  1. Sign up for a feature called "Call Rejection". Then you enter the number and the number is blocked. There may be a monthly service charge for this feature.
  2. Yes, this is totally annoying... It makes call blocker mostly useless. I have heard the reasons actually have more to do with lawyers than engineers. I understand that it is tied up in the various interconnection agreements, and right to transport rules that the baby bells have to follow. As for options, call the phone company 800 ATT 2020 and report the number as harassing. They will block it for you. (and you don't even need to pay) Important, don't call and say my call blocker isn't working. Say I am getting harassing phone calls from this number in the middle of the night. As for features that may help you... Anonymous call rejection will require callers announce themselves (record a name) before allowing the call to ring through. This is often enough to keep folks from calling. Of course, you have to deal with announcing yourself each time you call on your cell, quite a pain. And it wont block calls from identified callers who are annoying. But it is the only other feature I am aware of. Good Luck
