What alternatives do I have in Sunnyvale CA to SBC/ATT local phone and internet service?

Given SBC/ATTs recent alignment with the NSA and its changes to its privacy policy, I would like to change my local phone service and internet service. I would like to avoid giving ATT money in any way possible. So alternatives should not go through ATTs San Francisco Spy machine. Any suggestions welcome!

2. For phone service, try using something that uses VoIP like Vonage, etc.
