att phone service, can i buy a different phone, like t mobile or verizon?

i have att, my phone is being extremely retarded. if i bought one of the phones off of the sites so i dont have to have a two year contract, could i use a different wireless providers cell phone. like t mobile verizon sprint or any of those ? please help as soon as possible my phones about to break

1. You can only use GSM phones, so only Tmobile. These are the only phones that have sim cards so its the only ones you can use. Just like if you were a Verizon customer and could only use other CDMA phones, aka Sprint. You also need to get your Tmobile phone unlocked to accept the AT&T sim card.
2. You can only use GSM phones with GSm providers and CMDA phones with CMDA providers. T-mobile is a GSM provider and Verizon is a CMDA provider. If you want to replace your phone then I would visit: http://www.myphonedied.com
