LG Wireless Phone

can you use a prepaid phone for contract phone service ATT?

my contract ATT phone broke and i need a new one. the ATT prepaid phones are much cheaper. can I use one of them as a replacement, or do i need to buy one of the expensive ATT contract phones? I'm asking because i heard ATT didn't want you to do that and that they would shutdown your service if you did.

  1. i think so
  2. no that why its called a prepaid phone, the difference is the prepaid. they aren't going to let you get over just cuz the phone is cheaper. what you could do is buy someone's used phone.
  3. You can buy them and they will work with your service. But of course you will still be locked into any contract for a monthly service plan that you will need to pay until the contract expires.
  4. Hi Elijah You are correct that ATT does not want you using a PAYG phone. ATT does have a division that looks for PAYG phone IMEI# being used on post paid accounts. Yes they could terminate service if they find out. That being said, the chances of this happening are VERY slim. 1000's of people do this everyday so if I were you, I would just purchase the PAYG phone, pop your sim in and you are good to go. Whatever you do, DO NOT call customer service and have the PAYG phones IMEI# noted on your account. If you purchase the PAYG phone on-line from ATT, you will need to also add PAYG credit to the phone and use the credit. If you purchase it at a department store where no personal info is needed, then just pop your sim card in
