How do I get out of my ATT wireless account?

I am sick and tired of my ATT service, but I am only 6 months into the contract. How can I get out of the contract while keeping my phone number?

1. You can cancel and pay the fee. I know there is this website that you can "swap" your old contract and you will be freed from it (I do not remember it though). You can also complain that you never get service where you need it. I have heard of this working, but it is hard. But before you do any of that, you would need to get the new phone because if you cancel the other one, you will no longer have that number.
2. You Can try to go to another Provider and if you number is portable they can switch it for you to there service, but you still will have to pay the deactivation fee, and you will prob. be fed up with them in six months also, so you'll be losing money every time you try to change. I think the Best way for you to go is a pre-paid service that way if you don't like a company or a cellular service after a few months you are not out any money.
