How do the Verizon wireless pay-as-you go plans work?

How much do you pay per month? How do you pay? Is it worth it? Plus can you just buy any verizon wireless phone and just use the pay-as-you go service from verizon wireless? Thanks.

1. I use Verizon Prepay. It costs $30 per month plus 10C a minute. I have been very happy with their service as I travel a lot and don't pay near the roaming charges. You do have to use one of their prepay phones but they have a large selection of different types including high end.
