Verizon Wireless 4G network question?

I just bought an HTC Rezound, one of the latest phones in Verizon. It's a 4G LTE phone, but when I connect to it, it only connects to 3G. I only had 4G about once for a couple of minutes but for about a week its nothing but 3G. I don't know if its from my location, I mean I live in NYC. Or is it normal? (My first phone with any type of data lol).
