Is it possible to use the LG shine for Verizon?

I am interested in purchasing the LG shine. But I noticed that it's only carried by AT&T and I am not even near my end contract date with Verizon. I heard of unlocking phones but I don't know if it would be possible to unlock the LG to use for Verizon? That sucks... thanks guys!
