Does anyone know if att(the phone service) has long distance texting?

Not international, just national. I have a friend my mom doesn't know I text who lives quite a while away from me, and I would like to know before we switch plans. I currently have verison.

1. If you get an iPhone, there are free unlimited texting apps. They're called Text Me and Text Now. Both free and great. As for the regular texting, I thought it wouldn't matter the distance....Only calling would effect it.
2. If you have an unlimited plan, it is covered. If you don't, then there is a per-message received/sent charge, which is the same sent locally or across the nation.
