I cancelled my att account and paid it off..now in collections?
I paid off my att cell phone bill and still in collections. I went on my credit report and tried to dispute but said nothing has changed. I have bank statements to prove payments. What do I do? I paid everything, including early termination but credit report says not paid at all!

- Was there an early termination fee that you hadn't paid? When was this? __________________________________ And you paid the full amount due to AT&T? Was that total the same that is showing due to collections?
- Did you get a receipt? Send that receipt with the amount due circled and a copy of the check you wrote them to the collection agency and dispute the item. (you paid the wrong people - now you have to fix it) Also you must give credit reports 45 to 60 days to update information
- Who did you pay? If you paid the collection agency, the debt will remain on your credit report for the balance of the 7 year reporting period. It should just be updated to show "paid". Paying off derogatory items does not get them removed from your credit report, nor will it improve your score. If you paid the final bill to AT&T, then it shouldn't be in the hands of the collection agency. Send a certified, return receipt letter to the collection agency telling them that you do not owe and paid AT&T in full. I would not send them a copy of your bank statement but try to get a copy of the cancelled check or documentation from the bank showing proof of payment. You may also want to contact AT&T and ask why they sent your account to collections. Get something in writing from them that your account was paid in full. You should ALWAYS keep the final billl for cell phones, cable, and similar. These have a nasty habit of acquiring additional charges and being sent to collections.
