How can I get a dial tone my V-Tech wireless phones after changing batteries?

Neither the wireless phone nor the one at the base now work! Lights are on/tones are working...just can't dial out nor receive calls! Ack!

1. plug the line cord into a working telephone jack.. not sure if the jack is working? check it with a corded phone... when all else fails, like uniden and vtech phones - buy a panasonic...
