Blackberry curve 3g - How to use WiFi with my phone?

So I just bought a blackberry curve 3g recently and i put my sim card and it has been working fine. I do not have an internet plan or data plan or anything. i haven't activated my blackberry services either. i just bought the phone and put my sim in it. My question is can I use the browser on my Blackberry with an available WiFi connection? Thanks p.s. my sim card is normal - it not 3g or anything i got my own wifi at home, it still doesn't open. i mean the wifi connects perfectly on my laptop but whenever i open the browser on my blackberry it shows a message saying "unable to connect to the internet, please try again later."
