Why is my cell phone battery bulging?

I have an LG Vu CU920, and when my first battery could no longer hold a significant charge, i bought a new one. This new battery worked well for about 2 weeks, but suddenly could barely hold a charge for about a 1 minute phone call. The battery's performance continuously degraded from then on, and now it is bulging maybe 1mm or more on each side. I only have about 2 months left until I get a new phone. Should I replace the battery, or wait until my contract ends?

1. Take it back and tell them they gave you a defective battery and you want a new one before the acid inside starts leaking out and ruins your phone.
