Can a cell phone company keep charging you for a monthly service if your phone is shut off?
our service was disconnected so obviously we were unable to use the phones yet att kept charging us our regular monthly service, are they allowed to do this?

- Read your service regulations. Even if you are cut off, they still charge what you owe for the balance of your agreement, or an early termination fee. These charges are usually very close in the amount unless you are near the end of your contract when they cut off your service. They are probably charging the balance/early termination fee but billing monthly instead to make the payments easier than receiving a bill for the full amount due immediately. The phone company may be doing it this way, to allow you to catch up on your payments, at which point they will reinstate your service with an additional reconnection fee.
