Can you downgrade a Verizon cell phone while under a contract?

Hi! I currently have a Samsung Reality and I pay $9.99 extra every month for the required data package. But then I think it is kind of a waste for me because i don't take advantage of it, so I want to downgrade back to my old phone, LG Versa. Is that possible while I'm on a 2 year contract?

1. Yep, you sure can... and when you do it yourself by using option "1" after dialing *228 from the phone you would like to downgrade back to, Verizon automatically recognizes it and stops charging you the extra for the data pkg that was required for the previous phone.
