Iphone + GV + ATT's Simple Rate Plan?

Maybe someone can help me out. I would like to have an Iphone which I can use for free incoming / outgoing calls and texts while on a wifi network. When I am not on a wifi network I would like to have it use ATT's "Simple Rate Plan" of 10 cents / min. I would like to keep my current phone number. -I have a Google Voice account with a GV number. -I have an old ATT phone which is past the 2 year contract and is going month to month right now. What I plan on doing / think will work... If I buy a used unlocked Iphone (going on craigslist for ~100 bucks). Port my Google Voice number for 20 bucks so I can keep my current number. In-turn doing so will cancel my current ATT plan. Put in my old sim card into the Iphone / sign up for the "Simple Rate Plan". First of all will this work? Second, is there a way I can keep my current sim and sign up for a "Simple Rate Plan" or will I have to purchase a new super cheap phone from ATT then put that sim into my iphone? Lastly, will the iphone automatically use free google voice while on a wifi and the 10 cent / min plan while not on a wifi network? Thank you for your time and help!

  1. An Active iPhone will demand you have a data plan and an acceptable Voice plan and your simple rate wont work for iPhone.
  2. Google Voice on a jailbroken iPhone through Cydia works by forwarding the phone call to your phone number. It's a poor app at best (crashes when you try to access history, etc.) but it does work pretty well for SMS by texting a specific local number (for me it's new york) with the actual number you are texting in the header of each SMS. However all of this works in conjunction with your phone service provider and not over the Wifi/3G.
