LG Wireless Phone

If you have a wifi phone with your sim card, can you make calls anywhere?

I'm thinking of getting a new phone, one is a wifi phone with quadband coverage worldwide. I have at&t so the GSM freq. is in range, I just want to know with my simcard in it will i be able to make my calls/ texts anywhere, or since it's a wifi phone will it only be able to make calls in those wifi hotspots?

  1. Having WiFi means you can use a VOIP app to make calls (such as Skype), but that has NOTHING to do with your SIM card at all. --- Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II days People with no commitments have the strongest causes.
  2. no u can't u will be charged for international calling by service provider
  3. Quadband coverage is great, most of europe and Mexico use the GSM tech. so when I travel there my phone works, however the wifi part really has nothing to do with SIM cards or your "voice" coverage part of the phone. For ex: I have an iphone, works almost everywhere, I can use internet everywhere with my data package, & when I sit at a Starbucks that has wifi, my internet runs faster.....that's it. Hope that helps, Good Luck!
  4. Wifi has nothing to do with cellular access. The ability to make a call of a cell carrier's network is about the signal strength, not the wifi connection. As it relates to the wifi you would only be able to use that in the vicinity of wifi hotspots. As long as you have cell signal you should be fine to make calls & texts.
  5. A wifi enabled smart phone has full calling/texting capabilities over AT&T's cell phone network. You use wifi for internet access to avoid going over your data allowance.
