if I have a wireless router can i you a wifi phone off the router?

I was thinking of bying a wireless or wi fi phone and try to use it without buying a plan. so, my question is if I set up a wireless router in my home can I use it to use my wifi phone?

1. I was able to with my phone. You should edit and add your phone though.
2. You could, but without a plan, you'd have no server to connect the phone to. So the phone would have no idea what to do when you dialed a number. You could use the WiFi for the phone's Internet features, but since there would be no voice endpoints you could connect to, you wouldn't be able to use any voice capabilities.
3. Sure, if you want to pay for VOIP service and know that you'll always be near an open wireless hotspot.
