Can I put a prepaid card into my current ATT phone?

My ATT phone just got disconnected due to me not paying the bill. If I buy a prepaid card, can i activate it and put it in my current ATT phone and will it work? or will it go towards my outstanding balance? Thanks in advance!

1. As long as its an ATT phone card & not an older 'Cingular' prepaid card it will work. The credits will be taken from the card that is inserted into the phone. try marking one with a pen so you can tell the two apart & dont loose ur old SIM because ATT might (they did for me when i had 'cingular' charge you $$ to get you a new one!
2. Yes All the features may not work. PEople usually use the prepaid phones when they lose their regular phones. So it should work the other way around.
