Would I be able to drop my current verizon wireless plan and buy a motorola droid at the contract price?
I am in the middle of my basic verizon wireless cellular plan but my phone cracked in half. I have been looking into smart phones such as the Motorola Droid, and I noticed it requires a data plan for internet and whatnot. I was wondering would I be able to switch over to a data plan and then buy a droid for the advertised $199 price with the new data plan activation?

- no you would have to pay a lot. but if you buy one off of line or some where you can take it in to the store and they will make that the phone hope it helped
- You can add the data package at any time with no problems/penalties of extention or anything. You can change your plan any time you want. However, if you want a new phone, you either 1. pay retail ($499.00 last I looked) Or extend your current contract. Call them to be sure though.
- Verizon sometimes offers upgrades after the one year mark. A Droid will cost 90 dollars a month or so for service and you'll have to sign a two year contract from the day you get the new phone. Go to a Verizon store and ask them. It can't hurt.
- Verizon has a current promotion going on for those who want to switch from a non-smartphone to a smartphone, allowing an instant upgrade. If you do this you would actually be able to complete the transaction at a place like Target, where last I looked the Moto Droid cost $169 plus $50 Target giftcard. However there are certain restrictions and it's only available in some areas. It was available in my area but after calling and calling they found out that without having renewed my contract once already, no instant upgrade. Otherwise you would not be eligible for an upgrade in the middle of your plan. However if you don't mind going without a Verizon extended warranty (sounds like ya don't), I actually got my Droid on eBay for $200. It'll take a while but there are auctions closing for $150-$200 for a Verizon Droid. Then you just call and switch the phone on your plan (which requires you adding the data plan). Simple. I love my Droid and I still have another year left on my plan, although my free phone was a Centro that had an unfortunate fall in the bathtub. A new Droid without a contract for the price of an upgrade.
- upgrading to a droid....., Yes, due to the fact that you currently do not have a smartphone/pda device, you would be able to upgrade your line of service, reason being for this is that Verizon is constantly promoting the new pda/smartphone devices because of the additional features avaliable with the phone and Verizon does offer the largest 3G Network,...keep in mind yes verizon does make an additional $30 a month, but that's requierd with any carrier anyways, its not like it would be any different with ATT or TMobile..., aka...you get a larger network area obviously with Verizon. ..but yes.., pretty much if you want to upgrade your phone, simply call into verizon and ask if they will change your upgrade date so that you can get a smartphone/droid device, you will need to have the rep you speak with order the phone however, due to the fact, it's the only way that Verizon can ensure that you are purchasing the smartphone device as requested, so you will have to wait for the mail-in-rebate as well keep in mind. but other than that who cares if you can get the phone to you within 2-3 days, and have the $200.00 billed to the acct, so no credit card necessary or immediate out of the pocket payment. .....keep that in mind. Personally, if i was going to get a phone, i wouldn't go with the droid at this point, I would go with the new HTC Incredible, but if you prefer the keyboard i guess that might help, but the HTC Incredible has an 8 MP Camera and a 3.7inch touch screen, 1Ghz processor....idk,, im glad i didnt get the Eris right away so i can get the incredible, the only other phone that really stands up to is right now would be the TMobile HTC Touch PRO HD? I think its called with a 4.2 inch screen, but what good does it do if your limited to Tmobile Coverage?..., RMatila
