Belkin 54G WiFi router refuses to connect to a 802.11n wifi device?

My Gateway laptop with Win XP, my daughter's netbook also with Win XP and my son's MAC notebook computers all connect to this router using WiFi with out difficulty. However, my son's and my son-in-law's smart phones that use 802.11n refuse to connect. My wife bought a new netbook computer also using 802.11n and it also refuses to connect. I asked Belkin but they wanted to blame signal strength. It is not signal strength! My wife's netbook was in the same room with the router when it would not connect. I think it has something to do with the 11n vs 11g. Perhaps the Belkin is not compatible with 11n. They are also less than timely in their responses. I am hoping that the YAHOO! answers community can come up with the answer more promptly. Is there a setting on the Belkin or on the 11n device that I can change to make this work? Is there firmware I can install on the Belkin? (It should be noted that I have checked several times for firmware updates and found none.) A Dell netbook was purchased to replace the returned Acer one. This new computer is due to arrive today and I don't want to have to tell my wife that this brand new computer also will not connect to our WiFi. Thanks AJ. I bit the bullet last night and bought a Netgear wireless N router. It cost $50 and took 20 minutes to install. All is working as it should now. It bugged me that the Belkin would not work with these devices and no one could tell me why. I was able to connect to a neighbor's belkin but not my own. But that is all water under the bridge now. Thanks for your reply.

  1. the only way that the smart phones wouldnt be able to connect to the router is if they were strictly wireless n and your router was b and g.i am using my netbook with a belkin g router and my netbook supports b,g, and n.it might have to do with the n and g signals,i would suggest buying a wireless n router from walmart. I remeber one time that my psp handheld wouldnt connect to the router, after messing with the routers settings i found out that the wifi signal was only g, so i changed it to mixed b and g.Only then was my psp able to connect to the router.I am also pretty sure that if you have a device with wireless n it should be able to connect to routers with g signal because n has backward compatibility, but i am assuming that for some reason the smart phones and the netbook dont have backwards compatibiltiy.just buy a new n router like i mentioned, they arent that expensive, considering all the devices you have and how you already replaced the acer netbook, you probably have the money to buy a wireless n router, and plus wireless n routers are way better that g routers.they have a longer range and great performance, since you have a lot of wifi devices an n router would be a better solution.hope i was of some assistance.
