8 months into contract on verizon, how much would it be to trade the nv touch for the ally?

1. You have to pay full price for it. Or buy it through a 3rd party( e-bay etc.) for a cheaper price, then activate it online for free. By doing this, I don't think it renews your contract.
2. Your service company will make you pay for the phone, but then you can sell it on eBay or to a friend. So check on ebay how much they sell for and then subtract that from the full price of the new phone. They won't give you a discount because you still have a contract sadly.
