How to make regular att phone into pay as you go phone?

Ok i have a lg xenon and i bought an att pay as you go phone and put the sim card into the xenon and it says sim card initilizing what do i do?

1. You have to activate the sim card on At&t's website, I would recommend doing this while the sim is in the pay as you go phone, then just place it in the xenon and you should be fine.
