Avoiding the data plan on Verizon Wireless Phones?

I am due to get a new phone from Verizon wireless at the end of the month. Unfortunately, with the exception of really crappy flip phones, you are required to get a data plan. I don't want one because i have an ipod touch and that really satisfies the need I have to use the mobile internet and what not. Is there any way to work around getting that data plan? Thanks.

1. you can buy a phone from ebay, and either use the verizon website to activate the phone, or call the customer service number
2. There is no way around the data plan. Even if you buy the phone on eBay, the data plan will automatically be added to your line when you activate it. Like you said, you already have an iTouch, so what do you need a phone with internet features for?
