cell phone help unlock or buy?

hi, I'm planning to buy a cell phone soon and did a lot of research, I looked at many different company (carriers) and decided on virgin mobile. I find it cheap and I know someone who has virgin who likes his plan. So I'm planning to get a plan from virgin mobile but they don't really have many phones to choose from. I was thinking about lg bliss but I found out it's not that great. I want to buy phones like lg eve! but it's only from rogers! so what i have in mind is to buy the phone from rogers? and go get plan from virgin or get lg eve for 99 cents for 3 year plan of 45 dollars a month, cancel it and unlock it to virgin. If you have any suggestions or comment or solution of this it would be great thank you so would it be better to just buy the phone and switch carriers or make 3 year contract, cancel then switch?

1. 1st both phones have to be CDMA network phones, 2. virgin mobile Might not let other carriers phones on there network 3 if you sign up for a 2yr or 3yr contract with rogers and then cancel you will be hit with an ETF, most charge you x amount per month left on contract
