Couldnt figure out why the bill was higher this month. Upon examining the bill. Found a charge under the category: Open Market from: Txtcollect. It was described as a mobile purchase/ download. According the the operator I called at ATT who looked up the reference number it was described as: An operator will prompt user that they will pay a premium price for a word of wisdom and allow a 20 minute conversation. We found the message in memory and it was some one phrase tidbit and had no opt out or charge information. All we did was get the text message and ATT allowed them to post $9.99 to my account. Check your bill and let ATT know, They did not believe me that we did not knowingly accept this charge, but did refund the charge. After searching on the internet this is apparently a practice that is allowed to go on through ATT's agreement with the operator. Its not just ATT, Sprint was mentioned and other cell phone providers allow it to go on as well. Who the heck is knowingly going agree to pay $10 for a word of wisdom from a text message? They are obviously committing fraud.
