Is it okay to switch ATT sim card into new phone without calling company?

my att phone was recently broken but now my mom got the LG neon for me but it was on HER upgrade. I wasnt eligible for an upgrade yet. I was wondering if it was okay if i just switched my SIM card into the new LG phone and everything would work and be okay? thanks!!
