Trouble with LG CG300 cell phone?

hi, my dad has a cingular LG CG300 wireless phone and it messed up somehow. he cant call anybody, none of the buttons will work, its kind of like his keypad just locked but he never had a password or anything to set it to lock before. he can recieve calls but you cant hear what anybody is saying. he really needs this fixed because it is his work phone and since it is sunday, the cingular store isnt open. he needs this fixed today because he works out of town and he leaves tonight. help is much appreciated! oh, and we have an extra cell phone, and we put his sim card in there and it wouldnt work. do u have any suggestions on that?
