Activation on new verizon wireless phones?

I recently bought a new verizon wireless phone over the computer on a verizon wireless website. I heard that if you take it to get activated at a store they charge you a fee to activate it, is that true? And do they charge you to transfer your contacts onto your new phone?

1. Hello To activated your phone dial*228 on your phone ,and follow what they are saying on the other end.You do have a verizon phone number?I had to do that when i got my verizon wireless phone.It should program your phone.
