Use an Iphone or Blackberry on Verizon Network without paying extra "data plan" per month?

I have a first generation iphone but just switched to verizon and got an lg phone... I HATE not having a smartphone and want to purchase a blackberry(from a friend or ebay) but dont want to pay the extra fee that verizon charges to have a blackberry... Is this possible? or is it possible to use my first generation iphone on verizon?? Any help would be GREAT!!!

1. Right now you can't use the Iphone on the Verizon network because of the agreement Apple has with AT&T. When all the carriers eventually switch to the 4g network that may change. Also with Blackberries and smart phones you do have to have the data plan. I heard it was because otherwise the data charges would make your bill really high. I know the regular data plan without business email is 29.99 a month, then you can pick the minute plan. It really depends on what you want to use your phone for. There are a lot of non-smartphones that are internet capable (but don't have the HTML web browser) and can still do a lot of stuff.
