How do i know my phone is using its wifi and not orange?

I've just bought a new LG phone and know its free to connect to wifi and browse using that but does it use wifi automatically once i'm connected or do i have to change a setting so its not using orange network? Confused with all this internet phoning stuff

1. WiFi is a wireless radio carrier between your device and a Hotspot transceiver, normal range is about 100meters. It is an automatic connection that allows connection to a internet WAN ISP. Orange is a cellular network interface using microwave radio transmission with cell towers, for phone service and 3g services. It must be initiated to be used.
2. Go into 'Settings', then 'WiFi' It will show you whether WiFi is turned on or off.
3. Sorry what i ment was, if i connect to wifi and start browsing on the orange internet browser will i be using wifi or orange network still?
