How Does WiFi Cell Phone Access Work?

I am considering getting a new cell phone (I have AT&T) and one of the phones that I am looking at has WiFi, now I know what that is and how it works, it is the same for cell phones? You can just connect where it is available correct? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Thank you!!!!!!

1. That's pretty much all there is to it... Provided it's a free wifi hotspot eg starbucks etc or ur home or office wifi network! The advantages are mainly that it's free so you can avoid paying data charges... And even if you have a data plan as part of your contract you have the benefit that it's generally a faster and more reliable connection that going thru the mobile network! If you can get a phone with wifi, go for it... Certainly comes in handy, and even If you hardly ever use it you don't lose anything! Hope this helps!
2. Advantage - free disadvantage - nothing except security, honestly i didnt find any security issues as of now.
