How do I switch off a DSL router and still use the DSL connection to my PC?

I have an Actiontec DSL router hooked up to a Qwest phone line. The router is connected to my PC with an Ethernet cable. How can I turn off the wireless signal so that my kids can't use the wireless connection down stairs, but I can still use my DSL connection upstairs? I want to be able to switch the connection on and off as I desire. Do I have to buy a special router to do this? Thanks, Thorpedo

1. do you have a dsl modem? if so, plug the pc into that and bypass the router.
2. 1. Access the web interface of the router by typing http://192.168.0.1, into the address bar of Internet Explorer. 2. Click on Setup/Configuration on the Main page. 3. On the left hand panel click Advanced Setup. Then Begin Advanced Setup. 4. On the left hand panel click Wireless Settings. 5. In the Wireless Settings page, click the radio button next to off. 6. Click Next, then Save and Restart at the bottom of the left hand panel. 7. Then Click Save and Restart on the next page this will reboot your Gateway. 8. Once the gateway reboots, the Wireless LED should be green.
3. you can do what i do...access the router and change the pass key for your internet. that way they can't access it without your passkey. just go into run on the start menu and type in cmd and it'll bring up dos and then type ipconfig that will give you your routers address. Then all you do is type it in the navigation bar and your on your way
4. You most probably have to buy a new wireless router and config it to the QWEST DSL service. Another option is to contact the QWEST Tech Support dept and see if the will give you access into the router. If so you can just disable the wireless broadcast.
5. since you don't want you kids to connect to the internet the best way to not let them connect to it is that you put a security password for the router.first go to run on the start menu and type CMD the command prompt will show up,after that type in Ipconfig so you can know what's your Ip address .after you type Ipconfig you going to see you Ip address ,take the number for default gateway and type it in the URL ,after you entered the numbers you should see the base state management tool.from there you can set up your router you can change the name that you want your connection to appear for others and you can do asecurity password so no one can use the internet except the one who know's the password that way your kids cant connect to the internet unless you put in the password yourself.i hope it works for you.
