How to void a wireless phone contract without penalty?

I signed up for a wireless phone (Qwest) and wasn't told there was a 2 year contract attached; I never signed anything to that effect. I beleive that I was mislead and would like the contract that I never knew existed void. Qwest is telling me that it will cost $400 to get out of the wireless service. Insights? Thanks.

1. the only way out of the contract is to move to a place where the don't offer service at then they will let you out but some providers want to see bills
