Can anyone explain the "magic" behind wireless phones?

We now take mobil cell phones for granted. Did anyone ever stop to wonder how it actually works? No wires, I know it works off relays, but what makes the sound travel long distances, and usually relatively clear. Since wireless is the future, can there come a time when everyone will be tying up lines while using them for computers and things...and we will have a lot of interference and other problems? Thank you.

1. wireless phones are simply radio units that can transmit and receive at the same time. The cell tower is the other radio and it uses some method of deciding which cell tower is getting the strongest signal from your phone. The cell towers are interconnected and connected to the normal wired phone system , and lines exist to other cell phone providers. If you are moving you switch from tower to tower as you move. The phone company has to keep enough capacity free that you dont get calls dropped while moving and that you can make a call when you need to. Nobody would like it if you want to make a call, and your phone didnt work.
2. Cell phones truly are amazing, they use satellites to bounce the wireless signal (usually from cell phone, to cell tower to satellite, then back in reverse). They produce radio waves that are able to travel great distances (thus why we do not require the cords, and telephone poles) Also, You can have wireless Internets with computers and other common technology. This High tech wireless way, may be of the future but is used today too, most wireless Internet areas are in schools, libraries, homes and as well as coffee houses. There is a problem though with wireless Internet and computers using them, if a neighbor has a greater powered server, they can pick up your "line". this causes great confusion and frustration and then the computers are prone to hacking if they are not well protected with spy ware and such. I use wireless Internet, sometimes my computer picks up other computers iTunes accounts, i can't download the songs, but I can play them, but normally i just restart my computer, which resets its "line"
