How to "Deactivate" a verizon wireless phones?

I am going to buy a verizon phone on ebay. I also have another verizon phone that I am currently using. How would I switch over my number to my new phone, and cancel my old phones number?

1. my mom had to do the same thing with her phone because she lost it and needed to get another. If you call Verizon they will be able to do that for you. My mom was able to keep her original number so you might be able to do that with your new phone also.
2. The act of activating a new phone with an existing number automatically deactivates the old phone, simply because the system only supports one handset to a given mobile number. Call Verizon Wireless customer service and they'll get you set up.
