Cell phone battery overheating?

My LG Orange Env is fully charged. Suddenly, it says "Battery is Overheated. Powering down for your safety." Then it shuts off. I turn it back on and it stays on for a minute or two and then repeats. When it's plugged in it stays on but flashes an occassional message about hight temperatures. The battery and phone don't feel hot at all. Help!

1. OMG my phone just started doing the SAME damn thing today. I have the ENV2. I'm soo pissed because I wasnt doing anything just tried to make a phone call and I had the phone up in a safe place...
