LG Wireless Phone

Parents advice about giving teens cell phones?

Ok I'm 16, but I want another parents advice about this. I have a job currently and I really want the LG enV Touch by Verizon because my mother is thinking about switching to Verizon shortly. (I do not currently have a phone.) I saved all the money needed to buy the actual phone ($99.99) and I agreed to pay $26 a month for my portion of texting and insurance on the phone. They seemed to be unsure about the whole thing since the original agreement was that I achieve all As on my report card but I got ONE B THAT WAS AN 85! and so I suggested I could pay about $40 a month to help out when my paychecks allowed. My dad says I need to come up with a new goal that I can reach in about a month and he will try to help me get it. Please tell me if I should have the phone in the first place? If I'm making good agreements? And PLEASE suggest any other goals I can set for myself. I also clean the main bathroom in our house, the kitchen and clean my room every morning when I wake up. Summer rox - thanks! and i used to think the same thing about touch phones but thats why im payin the insurance so i can get a free replacement. Felisha G - THANK YOU! I really try to be a good kid and THANKS for the laundry idea, i'm gonna jump on that now! and my mom considers babysitting something i just should do.. also ive made actual contracts with a list of agreements to show them how i will use my phone and rules i set for myself. thanks everyone!

  1. I think you for sure deserve a phone if you are working and willing to pay for at least part of it. BUT I do not thing you should get a touch phone. That is the last thing I will ever get. I had one and it broke in 3 days. It just froze out of no where. I think touch phones are crap. ALL my friends that have or had one broke.
  2. I think over all you sound like a good kid and your parents are doing a great job! Do you have siblings? if you do offer to babysit so your parents can have a night out or something? Laundry? trust me it looks easy but moms hate it! If your parents are big in your community offer to do some volunteer work. Cook them dinner? hope these ideas help. I think its OK for you to have a phone, Be responsible with it and be careful who you give the number too, and let your parents know that if it is trust they are worried about they can check it anytime they would like hope it helps good luck!
  3. I was handed a mobile phone, age just ten and told that it was imperative that i kept it with me at all times.
