why doesnt att/cingular sell phone without plans?

i already have a plan... aren't they losing massive amounts of money by doing this?

1. Because they are working for Satan, of course.
2. Part of the income is to take profits from the use of the plan. The charge of the phone is partially covered by the initial charge and the rest is covered in the plan minutes paid for. The best thing they can do is let you go over your plan minutes and charge an outrageous rate for the overage minutes. There are contact AT&T stores that will sell you the phone at full cost without requiring attachment to a plan. Tell them you want it as an upgrade and will activate later.
