What's a good cell phone for a 13 year-old?

My daughter is starting this program in school where she goes around the region (and to local cities)to help communities and charity services and she goes on trips away from home and I think she should get a cell phone so she can stay in touch. What's a good cell phone? I was considering: Blackberry Curve (on sale, now 49.99) LG Xenon

5. the curve is a great phone I am not sure what service provider you are using but in order to fully use this phone you need a data service also so she can check email and surf the web also with this phone ask the sales rep what capacity of a micro sd card it can handel I have the curve and it can take a 16 gig micro sd card . also with the black berry curve it works great as an mp player . but I would think that a 13 year old the basic phone is perfect make sure you have unlimited texts as that's the new thing with teenagers my 16 year old can do over 8000 in 2 weeks
6. I think the LG Xenon cause the blackberry curve is more for business people
