can i insert a SIM card from a new att go phone into a unlocked phone?

I just bought an at&t go phone(the whole pay as you go thing) and i have a unlocked purple razr, can i put the sim card from the go phone into the unlocked razr?? ok now everytime i put in the sim card in the phone it works for like a min and then it says "check sim" and won't let me do anything, so i turn if off and take out sim, and then it does the same thing
