Is it possible to use a T-mobile SIM card wth an ATT phone?

I actually attempted to place my T-Mobile SIM card into my neighbor's ATT Razr v3 phone, but it asked for a subsidry password (or something like that.). So what is a subsidry password? Is it possible for me to use my T-Mobile SIM card in any ATT issued cell phone and have it word, just like my friend's Razr?

  1. Yes, but the phone needs to be unlocked before it will be able to use the SIM card. Most providers sell their phones locked so only their own SIMs can be used. The SIM subsidy unlock code will unlock the phone to let it use other SIMs. Your neighbor can probably just request the unlock code from AT&T. (I'm not really sure of AT&T's policy on this but at T-Mobile we give the unlock codes for T-Mobile phones to pretty much anyone who has an account with us, as long as they've had the account for 90 days or more.)
  2. Unfortunately I do not think it is possible. I've tried to do this with my moms t-mobile phone. It did not work, the other phone rejected the card. If you are wanting to do this you may have to take it to a store and have them change it for you. Not sure if it will cost or not.
