Is it possible to suspend you mobile/wireless phone account for a certain period of time? (Rogers Mobile)?
Hello, I'm planning on moving out of the country this coming summer for graduate studies and still have approximately 2 years remaining on my wireless contract with Rogers. I was wondering if it was possible to suspend an account for a period of one year. Upon return to Canada, I would recommence with that same contract and finish off the remaining 2 years. Would that be possible? Regards, A. Crysanna, Thank you for your response. Seeing as how I have cable, internet, phone, and several wireless phones with Rogers for the past, say decade, all bills paid on time and full, I hope they will be able to accommodate my situation as you mentioned. Another question is: I will want to use my blackberry (that is unlocked) while i'm away for that one year period, can I just sign up for a 1 year contract with another service provider even if my wireless contract has been suspended? It's starting to sound complicated :) Thanks again, A. I assume it's just a matter of swapping SIM cards, yes?

- While you cannot completely suspend your services for a period of time, what you can do is call and explain the situation. The rep should be able to get you on a more cost effective plan and remove all additional services. If a rep doesn't have anything to meet your needs, advise them you want to cancel. They'll get you in touch with the cancellation department. Explain to that department that you have no choice but to cancel since you are moving out of the country temporarily but that you do NOT want to cancel because you wish to resume using the service when you come back to Canada. They should be able to help you out (depending on the length of time you've been a customer and how "good" of a customer you've been). I've seen people put on $10 plans (sometimes with the $10 credited for a period of time) in order to save their number and account. Edit: It's not complicated at all. Sounds like an average day for me! It sounds like you should be in good standing with Rogers so I wish you luck speaking to them. If your blackberry is unlocked you can use it with any other GSM service provider. Your account is linked to your SIM card, not the phone at all. It doesn't matter what the status is of your Rogers account. Just insert a different SIM and you are ready to go immediately. Since you have the phone already you may not even have to sign a contract with another company (I know most of the companies in Canada do not require contracts, they just never "advertise" that because they want you to buy a phone and be locked into a plan.)
