How hard is it to get approved for ATT cell phone?

My husband wants to switch phone companies, but is paying for a cell phone through his parents line. He has never had a cell phone on his own, but he has ok credit. He got financed for a new car, was able to get a credit card from a jewelry store in the mall, has a capital one card, but has defaulted on student loans and a best buy card. Anyway, he doesn't want to try on his own if he will probably get denied, so any idea of what his chances are?

3. I switched a couple days ago from Verizon wireless to at&t. My mom was the 1 who switched us. I am not sure how hard it was but she was talking about switching for a couple months before we did. It took us atleast a couple months i think to switch. It is kind of annoying to switch but it is worth it. At&T is really good! I like it much better!
