WHAT IS THE POINT OF SAMSUNG OMNIA'S WIFI IF YOU ARE FORCED TO GET THE DATA PLAN?
i was really thinking of getting it but when i heard you have to get the data plan i flipped because i really like the phone. is there any way to get around the data plan?

- there is no way around it. verizon (the ONLY US carrier that does this) requires a data plan on ALL smartphones. Verizon really is a terrible carrier. next, just because a phone has it, doesnt mean verizon allows it. they lock down many features on a phone.
- thats a good question..
- The point of WIFI is when you're in a large building such as a huge sky scrapping office building or your average college class room, many times you don't have service in that building. Lets say you rely on your phone for e-mails or internet...u don't have that access. So you use Wifi to connect to the wireless internet so u can utilize those features.
- Its just to help against negative feedback. If the network is slow or down in an area you still have the wifi to connect if you really needed to.The same reason it comes with two web browsers (opera, and internet explorer) just so you have the option. and opera doesn't work on some servers. Verizon isn't the only carrier to do so, at&t makes you get the data plan if you have the iphone or another smart phone. Same with blackberry's (made after 2007) everyone does, its just a new thing i remember when they charged for caller-ID. Don't flip your bill comes to like 70 bucks just try to use emails instead of texts. with at&t i was paying $63 and i just a had a basic phone, so its not that bad. Not to mention the phone is only $99, or like 160 for a 1-yr, just get the 1-yr contract you wouldn't want the phone w/out a data plan. how often are you in a wifi area w/out access to a real computer. It doesn't sound like you hang out at Coffee shops alot. You coundn't use it for email either because that uses data. All said and done it is cheeper, and better than the iphone 3g. although i herd talk of a new iphone comming out in the summer, but if you wait you'll loose the deal for half off verizon sale.
- well wi-fi speed is much faster than the data plan.
