Can I use wifi on a blackberry 8820 without paying for a data plan?

I want to get a blackberry 8820. i have AT&T service. the main reason i want this phone is because of the wifi feature. but i dont want to have to suscribe and pay for a data plan. i am wondering if you can use the wifi on the blackberry 8820 without haveing to pay for a data plan.

1. Yes you can. The wifi is not dependent on ATT network therefore you do not need a data plan to use it. All you need is a source that supplies wifi signal
2. Built in WiFi for your phone is available for use at any location where there is a router that you have access to. These locations may be at your house, a friends house, the mall, starbucks, etc. If you do not purchase a data plan package for your phone, you won't have access to internet features without paying an overpriced amount for it (if WiFi connection is not within your area). In response to your question, YES you may use WiFi without having to pay for the data plan but that only works where an unprotected (protected if you know the network key) wireless router.
